DIY Valentine’s Day Gift:12 Dates in a Jar

This Valentine’s Day I caught the Pinterest fever. Kenny and I decided not to buy any gifts, even though he already broke that rule, and no dealing with all the hectic restaurants on the biggest date night of the year. Since we weren’t buying gifts, who said I still couldn’t make something.

I found this idea on papervinenz.com and it is the perfect gift for couples who are looking to save some money. Even if we are cutting back on going out to dinner every week, it’s important to make sure we still treat each other at least once a month. So each month we pick one date from the jar and our wallets still grow without dwindling the romance.

What you will need:

  • A glass jar
  • 3 or more sheets of scrapbook paper
  • Ribbon
  • Stickers
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue (something a little more heavy-duty depending on how thick the scrapbook paper is)

First, cut your scrapbook paper into 3″ x 4″ rectangles.

Roll the paper together to form a cylinder. Then tape the one side of the cylinder. Papervinenz.com suggested using double-sided adhesive tape which would probably be a lot easier to work with, but due to limited resources you can use tape or even staple the paper together.

Type up 12 different date ideas for you and your significant other. Make sure they are dates both of you enjoy. Take one date and then roll it into the paper pouch.

Lastly, seal the other end of the paper pouch. Make 11 more and you’re set. Decorate your jar and place the dates into the jar.

And voilà, 12 dates in a jar.

I hope my first ever DIY post is approved by all you mini Martha Stewarts out there. Keep your head held high.

  1. I love this idea! John and I try to go out at least once a month but I think it would be so fun to pick a date out of a jar without really knowing which one we’re going to get 🙂 I think I’m going to have to make this one. Great DIY Jenna!
