Big News: He liked it, so he put a ring on it

Many people already know but,

I officially can no longer sing Beyoncé’s Single Ladies because Kenny and I are engaged.

Here is the story.

Friday night we headed to the Orange Hill Restaurant to, what I thought was to, celebrate Kenny’s birthday. I was so happy to see all of his family and mine mingling and enjoying each other’s company.

Then after dinner he made this speech (it was extremely dark in there so you cannot see much):

Friday night I became the one of the happiest girls and the future Mrs. Maiques.

Thank you to everyone who was able to share this special night with us and thank you to everyone who has been sending their love, support, and congrats.

Happy Monday Everyone!

30 Years of Love and Still Going Strong

20130326-081322.jpgHappy 30th Wedding Anniversary to these two love birds!

These high school sweethearts are the most important people in my life. They have taught me so much from love, respect, and what it takes to have a happy and healthy relationship.

I love you mom and dad.

Congratulations on 30 years and many more years to come!

Sweet hair guys.

There is so much more…

This morning I heard an old song from one of my favorite artists and the result was beyond humbling.

With all the stresses of life, we think the biggest worries of our current life are so drastically important that no one else’s situation compares to our own. We are blinded by our own minimal burdens. But in the end that’s all they are. Minimal.

The stresses of when am I going to get promoted, why does  he or she no longer speak to me, why do I physically look like this, why not buy my happiness, I hate my job, I hate school, and the list goes on and on.

Whatever our worries are we simply forget that there is so much more to life.

My favorite line in this song is, in a world of suffering why should I be so blessed? Which brings all of my current stresses of wanting to move out and advance in my career while still maintaining a social life are realized as minimal.

I am blessed I have a home with a loving family while others may not have a roof over their head or no one by their side. I am blessed I have a job while many others are unemployed and struggling for their next meal. I am blessed I am surrounded by the friends in my life even if I don’t see them as much as I would like.

So I am starting this week off with the mindset that there is so much more. Spreading the positivity, the love, and keeping my head held high.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s that day again. The day of love, the day to remind people they are single, the day that has been commercialized to say you better get that significant other something or you are screwed. Whatever today means to you just remember to make the best of it. Remind the people in your life how much you love them.

And don’t forget the rules of Valentine’s day from last year as they still apply.

Take some time out of your day to show your friends and family some love and appreciation. It’s a day of love, not a day of romance.

Make the most of today like it is your last and keep your head held high.
